  4. 1. The plot of the story is a bit complicated, the story is set in the Elizabethan era, the times in which shakespear lived, these times were quite harsh for women and did not have much justice. The characters are also kind of deep minded and each character has its own speacial personality, some are good, the others are bad, you can take Iago as an example, he always thaught he deserved more than what he already has, making him a greedy person.
    2. Shakespear was trying to show in his novel the social status of women during the Elizabethan era, which has changed massively over the years, in the novel, women are used as joy dolls, maids, housekeepers, while in todays world, they have all the right to get formal education, become doctors and lawyers, and even start their own business.
    3. The shakespearean language was probably the most challenging thing about the whole novel, it is so different than normal English in both, vocabulary and grammar. The grammar shakespear used, especially the scentence structure was too complicated to be understood.
    4. Shakespear's novels made a huge impact on the world, even after his death. It is really important to study his novels because they carry morals and lessons that have changed many things in peoples lives and mentality in today's world. Even though Shakespear might be challeging and difficult, it is important.
    5. No, the language used and the wide scenes will not make it any easier for me to act it out infront of my colleagues.
    6. ---------------------------
    7. No, Not really.

  9. - The way Shakespeare expresses the characters in his play "Othello" is very different from any other play. The plot symbolises everything from power, love and racism which makes it a play not only for entertainment but also for a sense of reality.
    - Racism is very common in the present world, there was alot of racist activites in Othello which reflects to the real life.
    - To be honest, everything becomes easy once you get the hang of it and from my point of view it was a bit challenging but I had fun doing it.
    - Shakespeare is an important part of the history of theater. He became so popular because his plays were so good and he is a good example of what we should follow.
    - Yes, I would like to be apart of Shakespeares play because it it important to try new things and shakespearean language is new to me and I would like to try it in a play.
    - I would like to be Othello in the play because othello is brave, compassionate and stands for what is right, I would like to represent him in a play.
    - Im brave like othello because I have done and acomplished many difficult tasks in my life and hope that there will be more.

  10. I think that the plot and story of Shakespeare's play, "Othello", has an intriguing sense of deception and a theme of jealousy is present within it. Some unclear connections can be made between the play and the real world, such as the way Othello's jealousy changed from his suspicion; in the real world, husbands might be suspicious of their wives, especially in th Elizabethan Era. In English, Shakespearan lamguage can be consider by some such as myself as 'foreign'. Studying and learning to speak and write Shakespearan can be a difficult task, but with enough practice, you can do just fine in it. An important aspect in English is the use and understanding of Shakespearan language, as it could possibly get you a job as an actor or director of a play. As news of a re-enactment of the play 'Othello' was to be made in our school, I might not be able to join, because of the fact I have short term memory issues and may not memorise my lines for the play. A character I would like to be in the play would be Iago, as he is a cunning and tricky man to trust. And lastly, any relations between me and the characters is not present.

  11. 1)the plot is basically It is about backstabbing.
    2) talking behind people's back like Iago
    3) it was very challenging because in modern life we don't use Shakespearean language.
    4) I think it's important to understand Shakespearean language because maybe some people still use Shakespearean language.
    5) No because I don't understand Shakespearean language and if I try to speak Shakespearean language than people will think words in a wrong way.
    6) I would like to be Iago because I have kind of same category.
    7) Every character are unique in there own way and you judge the character just by the face or the look

  12. 1) I think the plot of play "Othello" is good and fun to learn. The characters of this play "Othello" is interesting.
    2) The connections that I could make in real life is to learn the Shakespearean language.
    3) Shakespearean language is not easy but it is good to learn about the lanuguage they used during the Elizabethan Era.
    4) It is important to study Shakespeare because of their difficult language and style, and because he was the greatest writer who ever lived.
    5) No, because I could possibly forget my lines during the play.
    6) A character I would like to be in the play is Iago because is a Venetian and a professional soldier.
    7) No.

  13. Q1- I think the plot of the story is attractive and makes the reader to go through the whole story. Most of the characters are against the moor because his skin colour is black.

Q2- Some of the connections are the jealousy of people and being against that why should a black person be in an important position in a white country because they thought all black people are in a low rank.

Q3- Writing in Shakespearean language is really hard because now the words we know are spelled another way and pronounced another way so it’s going to be really hard to write in Shakespearean language.

Q4- It is important to study Shakespeare because it tells us how was life in the old times and he is a very good writer this made so many people to try being writers and be like William Shakespeare.

Q5- Yes, I would like to take part in the Othello play because I will understand more about the past life which we were not living and try to understand the Shakespearean language.

Q6- I would like to be Othello because he had a very nice personality. He also was a very brave man because he stood against Iago and stood against the racism.

Q7- No, I actually do not identify to any of the characters.

  14. I think the plot is very fixed and conveys a message to the readers of how mislead the characters were and how the story turned out in the end. The characters were very believable and some even likable.

Othello is a fictional story but contains real life elements as in the elizabethean era women were uneducated and treated lowly compared to men. Desdemona was uneducated and women in those times played instruments and a quote from Othello "using her needle softly, truly a great musician". The side of Racism is also realistic and Othello not trusting desdemona is also beleivable.

Writing in Shakespearean language was a tough challenge but soon after a few lines I got the hang of it and could write shakespearean language at ease.

I think it is important to study shakespear as it shows where english started and can help provide you with high level words although only some are used today.

No, I would not it would be hard to act out the exagerated expressions and speaking in shakespearean language is hard.

I would like to be Cassio, as he has an important role in the story although he is a background character.

Yes,I do as the charcaters reflect on the Elizabethean era and Racism.

    1) The plot is about two couple struggling for their love, they face hard time, difficulties. Trust and betrayal is a main theme in the story. There are many characters playing various roles. There are fights, misunderstanding. There are sharp, stupid too kind and bad characters in the play.

    2) This story connects to the Elizabethan era. Shakespeare had reflected the culture and way of life in this play. This play connects on how women were treated and how men could have power over them. Othello reflects on that era making it more interesting.

    3) Due to this era, no one ever spoke that old English we have a different way of speaking and grammar. Our English doesn’t even match their English it was a hard time to focus to write on their style, vocab and grammar.

    4) I think it is important because studying Shakespeare language is a really great test. By studying Shakespeare you get to know the life time during his time. It helps it finding new vocab and helps in studying there grammar.

    5) No I wouldn’t like to act in it since I’m not good in learning long dialogue and I’m not good in acting as well. It would be really hard to talk in their style. And learn their grammar.

    6) I would like to play as Iago since he is a smart guy. The way his mind works, really is shocking. He is really good in planning and brainwashing peoples mind.

    7) Yes, there is a characteristic I do pick from one character that is Iago he is an intelligent guy and smart worker. He plans for the future which I always do.

  16. 1. I think that the plot and the characters used in the play were quiet good.
    2. Betrayal, backstabbing, cheating, greed, lust, jealousy, racism, etc.
    3. It was very challenging. There was some really strong vocabulary in the play.
    4. So that we can know about the elizabethan era and the words that shakespeare used.
    5. No. That is because I am not good at acting and I have stage fright. I also dont know how to pronounce most of the shakespearean words.
    6. I would like to be Iago. That is because he is really smart. I liked the way he planned all his evil doings.
    7. Iago

  17. Othello is a book that conveys various messages to their readers, it uses it's plot and charactorial behaviour to talk, inform and convey messages to it's audience. It's plot and characters is carefully and intelectually planned to fit the messages and deliver a wonderful story. It's charaters are planned (even their behaviour) to fit in the role and social class they're playing.

Othello may be a fictional story but uses real life concept of critisicm like sexism and racism.
It uses the idea of feminism to display the role of females in the elizabethan era and how they were treated.

I think it was equally challenging because shakespearen language is something we've never done before, but after reading and expiramentally writing using shakespearen features I got the hang of it. once you understand the concept and the way of grammer it becomes easy.

I think it's important to learn his ways of grammar and writing because that's basically where english started. To know the importance and complex structures of english, you need to know the ancestorial roots of it.

Yes, because it generates messages and conveys many important things necessary for the younger generation. It will also be a fun play to watch or act in because we've already studied so much about it. The expressions and language features would be challenging and fun to act.

I would want to be Iago because he's a complex character with many unidentified emotions flowing thorugh him. I also want to fell his diffrent pains and emotions.

Yes, the cahracters reflect on the behaviour and social classes of the men and women of the elizabethan era.

  18. Q1- I think the plot of the story is simple and attractive to the readers. Othello is a simple story about jealousy. One of the characters is a moor but many people in the play hate the moor and disrespect. Another character is a two faces character who tries to ruin the moor's life.

Q2-Some of the connection between Othello and real life are jealousy of people and being against why should a moor is in charge of a white society

Q3- Othello was a pretty challenging play because it had advanced vocabulary and because the Shakespearian language is way harder than normal English. In addition to that,
The words are pronounced and spelled in a different way than we know.

Q4- It is very important to study Shakespeare because he was a brilliant writer. He also inspired many people to start writing plays and he had many hidden themes in most of his plays. In Shakespearean time a play was acted out in very few weeks so writer didn’t have a lot of time to write their plays.

Q5- Yes, because Shakespeare was a brilliant writer and Othello was one of his most famous and successful plays. I would also understand more about the play. When i grow up, I would wish could write plays as good as William Shakespeare.

Q6- I would like to be Othello because he was a brave and strong soldier and he wanted to defend his for his country. In spite of him being a moor, he still earned a very high position.

    Q7- No, not really

  19. ***Othello begins on a street in Venice, in the middle of an argument between Roderigo, a rich man, and Iago. Roderigo has been paying Iago to help him to get with Desdemona. But Roderigo has just noticed that Desdemona has married Othello, a general who Iago deserves. Iago says he hates Othello, who did not give him the position of lieutenant and gave it to an inexperienced soldier who was Cassio.

***it uses different real life concepts like
    -racisim
    -sexisim
    -communisim
    -greed
    -jealousy
    -betrayal
    -talking behind others back
    -back stabbing

***It was really challenging and complicated however when i got used to it, it began going easy...words like
    -Abhor
    -Tush
    were really easy to learn.

Because he was the greatest writer who ever lived. In the year 2000, Time Magazine named Shakespeare the greatest person of the millenium.Simply stated, students should study Shakespeare's works in school because of the incredible value within them.

***not really because i am not that used to using Shakespearean language just yet!!

***i would like to be Iago because he is a back stabber and a good actor when it come to Othello's terms (ex:Iago acts to be nice around Othello)

    ***No! Not really!

  20. 1) I think that the plot is about backstabbing and the problems that womens used to face in that era. It also has a little bit of racism. The characters were real and portrayed the Elizabethan era.

    2) We can see that Desdemona loved Othello and she was dependent on him.

    3) The Shakespearean language was very challenging and described the events and the thoughts of characters perfectly.

    4) It is important to study Shakespeare language so that we have knowledge about the past

    5) Yes, as i have a good understanding of the play

    6) I would like to be Iago as i have a good understanding of the character

    7) Yes, Iago

  21. 1.I think that the plot and characters are kind of interesting and the play OTHELLO is all about backstabbing, love, jealousy, greed, cheating, lust and racsim.

2.In reality there are lots of things you can relate to the play OTHELLO like cheating its a pretty big thing in the world now and racsim is also popular in most countrys so is greed is also a big thing now a days and there lots of other problems in the play Othello which can be connected to the world.

3.Writing Shakespearean language was quite a difficulty for me because there were a few words i did not understand but i managed to over come that challenge.

4.I think its important to study Shakespeare because if you have the dream to be a author.

5.I think my answer would be a no because i have stage fright and i smile most of the time when i get nevous which could ruin the play.

    6.I would probably be Iago.

7.I might have some similarities to Othello im kind, friendly, trustworthy and forgiving

1.The Elizabethan era is the time in which Shakespeare lived, at those times women were treated harshly, they had no rights to get education or a profession. They were used as maids. The plot was in Venice which was later on moved to Cyprus.
    2. Women then were treated as slaves but now things have changed, now the world sees women equvilent to men. Women get respect and are treated properly and if not can complaint to the authority as they have the rights to do so.
    3. Writing in Shakespearean language was a chalange to test our knowledge on the complex sentences and vocabulary. It was difficult at first but having a teacher like Mrs.Debbie nothing is impossible.
4.It is important to study about Shakespear as his ways may have influence on us in a good way and the ways of speaking during Shakespearean times was intresting.
5.No, as my Shakespearean english is weak.
6.Othello as he is the main character.

  23. 1-The story was set in the Elizabethan era, back when women were treated poorly and had no justice nor dignity and did not have access to education, it is also the time when Shakespear lived. In the time of Elizabethan era there were lots of racism and hate between most people due to injustice.
2- Women in the Elizabethan era had no right to get educated or to become lawyers or doctors, and they used as maids and housewifes and they were treated unfairly and could not say any opinion refering to politics.
3- Shakespearan language was very challenging and was really difficult to understand and it gave me trouble reading the novel.
4- Shakespear is a role model to us and his novels are full of morals and lessons that we should carry on to our children as it might change peoples lives, and even after his death he is still remembered as a great man.
    5- No.

  24. The plot can be very well understood in this play; jealously, deception, tragedy and manipulating. Iago is the only character that is able to fool everyone in the play. He may be honest in the outside, but the inside he is really evil, complacent and manipulative. Othello is naive and is often fooled of whatever Iago says to him. Desdemona is very faitful, loving, caring and heroic, she ran away from her father just to marry Othello. All the characters except Iago seem to be good-hearted and honest. Connections in real life can be present in the play like for an instance; people talking behind your back, trust being broken, loyalty and people that manipulate other people.

Writing in shakespearean language can be very challenging and difficult but it is also possible to get the hang of it. I think it is important to study the shakespearean language to understand more of William Shakespeare's other plays to understand their plot, symbolism and how society was in his era.

  25. 3. The book Othello is a book about the nature of the people in the Elizabethian era. Shakespeare is portraiting the people of his time with a tradgic love story. It has been put in a complicated and has the characters. It begins in city called Venice as Shakespeare shows the reasons of Iago's hatred eg: Othello not promotin Iago and promoting Cassio who does not have any experience in war and the second reason is that Othello has fallen in love with desdemona and so has desdemona with him.this shows the characteristics of the characters in the play "Othello ".

    2. you can see how the trust of people is been portrayed and now days it is not like that as the trust of people have grown because most of the time there are there are sertain consiquences and they are not very leniunt.

    3. the language of shakespeare is very complicated as we do not use it in our daily lives and will take hard work to understand it.

  26. 1.The plot is very diffrent from the normal traditonal storylines. All the character are round and most of them are for their own benifit.
2.Women din't have rights to speak without permission,Iago's wife could not reveal the the truth of Iago.
3.It was very hard to write beacuse we never spoke in old english so it was a really hard time writing in the old english.
4.It is important to study Shakespearean language beacuse he is the one who created shakespearean language, and studying english without shakespearean language is like studying math with algebra.
5.No,beacuse I confident about it and I might forget some lines in it.
    6.No

  27. 1. The plot of the story is set in the Elizabethan era, women were not treated as equal as men as they did not have many rights. The characters also have diffrent intresting personality

    2. Shakespear had portrayed the social status of women and the racisim in the Elizabethan era
    3. The shakespearean language's grammer was notably the most difficult part of writing in the Shakspearean language

    4. Shakespear's writings should be studyed due to the fact that they protray what happend in the reign of queen Elizabeth

I expect a more elaborate response to the questions given. Be careful with spellings. Always avoid giving single wod responses such as "yes" or "no". You have given me general answers without any specific details. Perhaps that is one area you need to work on in order to improve your levels.

  28. 1)The plot of the story is jealousy and racism, the characters all have weird personalities.
2)Connections in real life are jealousy, racism and love. There are many events in the play where racism takes place just like in real life.
3)It was a hard task for me but i managed to do it. The words are really strange and pronounced hard.
4)I do not understand why we should learn words which are not used anymore.
5)No because i did not enjoy reading or learning the play Othello.
6)I would want to be Othello because of how strong he is in the inside and out, He had a good personality too.
7)No im not identical to any of those characters.

  29. 1) Shakespeare did a great job for Othello with the plot and characters. The themes, "drama" and "jealousy" are great ways to attract the reader's attention and the assigned roles and personality for each character tells us who they really are.
    2) We can relate jealousy, love, racism, drama in reality and the social status of the women back in the elizabethan era.
    3) Learning Shakespearean language was a difficult task for us, similar in a way of learning a foreign language.
    4) I think it is important because Shakespeare uses strong vocabs in his stories, and there are lessons from it that the reader should learn and apply it to real life
5)No, because i have no interest in acting. And acting out in a different language is worse.
6)I would want to be Othello because of his bravery, his leadership, and his commitment in every single thing he does.

  30. *Honestly, reading Othello was a very different experience this year for me because I think this play really goes into the characteristics of humans. Shakespeare has delved very deeply into characterizing the various aspects of the play. I think the plot depicts the general complications faced by people, be it a black Venetian general or just a Florentine who has foolishly fallen in love. Personally, while I was reading the play I went through various levels of frustration and angst...because I'm going to be honest here, I couldn't really connect with the play and the characters. Literally everything, from Desdemona who's so desperately submissive and in love with her "lord" and husband, to Iago who's character seems to give a whole new meaning to losing faith in humanity. Maybe it's my lack of Shakespeare love and admiration, but I could not see how Othello was legitimately depicting real life situations. How is he seen as "one of Shakespeare's most tragic lovers" when he didn't even trust his wife; who is actually one of the most submissive wives I have read about. Maybe his intense jealousy shows passionate love? I really can't tell, all this love and passion eludes me anyways.
*Writing in Shakespearean language was a bit of a challenge but it was fun all the same, because all of us really are tired of writing those long essays in plain old English, so a change is always fun (for me anyways).
*Despite my lack of relativity to Othello, I've got to say it was a great piece of literature and so is every other play by Shakespeare, and going beyond that, we have to see that the time when Shakespeare wrote all these plays it was a difficult time in England, and he brought a kind of revolution which really needs to be appreciated; making it obvious as to why it's important to study Shakespeare.
*Yes, I would love to be part of a such a great experience, I mean this school doesn't really have many opportunities of acting in a play, so I wouldn't miss it.
*I would definitely play the handkerchief in Othello because the handkerchief really is underrated much more than it should be. I mean look at its crucial contribution in Othello, you can't really forget its place. So here's to all the inanimate objects in Shakespeare's plays which are not acknowledged as much as they should be...
